Well, if your clothes take longer than 45 minutes to dry for a normal load, and your clothes dryer gets warm (or hot) to the touch while it is running...It's your dryer vent that is probably clogged and needs to be un-clogged. too hot a switch automatically shuts it down, Dryer Fires occur
when this switch fails. I clean out the lint screen every time I dry clothes. Why isn't that enough? The screen is the interior filter for lint. The back of the dryer has a flexible hose which leads into a longer vent which many times terminates through the roof or a wall that is several feet away from the back of the dryer. This is the dryer vent that we are referring to. This vent can collect lint and become constricted and clogged which reduces the efficiency of the clothes dryer. Can dryer vent cleaning help reduce the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning? Another problem created by blocked dryer vents serving gas dryers is the risk of carbon monoxide leaking into your home. This can happen because the lint and flue gases use the same method to leave the house and get blocked by a clogged dryer vent. These colorless and odorless carbon monoxide fumes can be fatal. What should I do prior to the technicians arrival? Remove all items in and around your washer
and dryer, the less stuff in the way the better. Also, remove
all clothing from washer and dryer. If you have an aggressive
pet please keep away from the technician. My vent did not need to be cleaned for over 10 years, I had it cleaned less than a year ago, and now my clothes are taking longer to dry. Why is this? When a dryer vent pipe is first installed,
the insides are new and slick. Over time, the inside of the vent
pipe is corroded with the moisture from the venting. When the
lint is cleaned away, the inside of the pipe remains corroded
which allows the lint to collect more quickly. How long does the cleaning take? Most vents can be cleaned within an hour. Excessive lint buildup and the presence of a birds next can take additional time Does dryer vent cleaning help reduce wear and tear on my dryer? If your dryer takes twice as long to dry clothes as it should, the number of loads that it will dry in its lifetime is cut in half. When the dryer runs at higher than designed temperatures, the life of your clothes dryer decreases even more. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, over 15,000 homes fires each year are caused by dryer vents with a build up of lint and debris. When these build ups occur, the dryer can overheat, which can result in fires in the dryer or dryer duct. I see birds in the springtime but they soon leave. Does that birds come and go but that nest is still there causing blockage and is a potential fire hazard. If you make a fist – that’s all it takes to clog your vent. |
